Squash

This Thursday, September 19th is the first night of our intermediate doubles league. The doubles league will be running once per month and is for players with little to moderate doubles experience. We will also be running a women’s doubles league this fall and winter, once per month on Thursday evenings as well. The first night of our women’s doubles league will be on Thursday, September 26th. JUNIOR GROUPS

All of our junior groups are now up and running. We still have room in both our intermediate mixed group, as well as our munchkin/pee wee group. Our Intermediate group is for kids 9-14 years old who have no or only a few years of squash playing experience. It runs with the option of one or two days a week. Wednesdays are 6:00 - 7:00 pm, while Fridays run 5:45 - 6:45 pm. Our munchkin/pee wee group runs Saturdays from 11:45 am - 12:30 pm and/or Sundays from 11:00 - 11:45 am. Our Monday Night House League and Intermediate/Beginner Doubles League both get under way next week. The House league’s first night is on Monday, September 16th and our doubles league kicks off on Thursday, September 19th. JUNIOR PROGRAMS

Our competitive junior program started this past week, while the remainder of our junior groups get underway this week. We still have room available in both our intermediate mixed as well as our munchkin/pee wee groups. If you are interested in having your child come out and give squash a try, we welcome them to come to a class or two to see if they like it before signing up. STARTER SQUASH

Our next complimentary starter squash class is coming up this Sunday, September 15th from 1:15-2:15 pm. At our starter class, participants will learn all the basics they need to get started playing recreational squash here at the WWC. This includes the basic rules, shots and strategies of the games. We even provide the racquets and glasses for anyone who needs. If you would like to register for our class, please contact Trevor Borland by Saturday, September 14th at 3:00 pm. 

Our competitive junior groups are getting under way this week, starting this Wednesday, September 4th. The rest of our junior groups are starting the following week of September 9th. If you are interested in having your child give squash a try in one of our Intermediate or Munchkins groups, please contact Trevor Borland. We also have racquets and glasses that newcomers can use as they try it out.

PROVINCIAL JUNIOR TEAM

The Manitoba Junior Provincial Team tryouts are happening next week on Friday, September 13th and Saturday, September 14th. Friday will include a long distance run, while Saturday will include both game play and the beep test. HOUSE LEAGUE

Our Monday Night House League gets underway on Monday, September 16th. If you have not been in the league over the past year, but would like to be, please contact Trevor Borland. With our House League you can play it week by week or as your schedule allows. Just simply reply to the weekly email as to whether or not you want a game on the current week. We have players of all levels in the league and have matches at set times so you know when you will be playing. 

Our junior squash programs for the Fall will be getting underway soon. Our competitive juniors will get things going the first week of September with most of our other groups getting started the second week of September. Our youngest group is our Pee Wee and Munchkin group for kids ages 4-9 years old. In that program we start the juniors with junior racquets, balls and glasses to make things easier to start. PROVINCIAL JUNIOR TEAM TRYOUTS

For any of our competitive players or competitive hopefuls, our MB Junior Provincial Team tryouts are happening on Friday and Saturday, September 13th and 14th. The trials include a run on the 13th with game play and beep test at the WWC on the 14th. HOUSE LEAGUE

Our Monday Night House League will begin on Monday, September 16th. Our House League is a great way to get involved in the squash department at the Club and meet new people to set up games with. The league is for players of all levels, whether you are new to the game or a seasoned vet, we have levels of play for all. Each week an email is sent to all players in the league asking them to respond with a yes or no for the upcoming week if they would like to play. Another email is then sent out on Sunday evenings with the line up of who is playing who and at what time. If you would like to register for the league, please contact Trevor Borland

Our competitive programs get underway the first week of September, whereas most of our other programs begin the second week of September. The league is a great way to keep active in squash and meet new players. All participants can play the league from week to week as their schedule allows. Participants just have to respond to the weekly email that is sent out, asking if they are able to play on the current week.
